2. Coalition Introduction and presentation
Coalition Overview and Initiatives: Originally formed in 2017, the coalition aims to address community needs through town hall meetings and work groups. The next town hall is scheduled for January 23rd. The Coalition is seeking partners for workgroups to tackle identified needs.
3. Community Support and Development Initiatives
Snow Goose Transit: Gave an update on expansion and the need for resources. Ridership has grown but need to get the word out.
Healing Connection Center: No update at this time.
Kindergarten Readiness Initiative: The Kindergarten Readiness Initiative, a coalition project, has successfully launched several projects, including a new outdoor classroom at Arrowhead Ranch for children under five. The space is open daily and hosts various programs.
Transitional Kindergarten Program: The Transitional Kindergarten program provides a full-day preschool experience for children who haven't accessed preschool, primarily from lower-income families. It has reduced behavioral challenges and improved peer interaction. This program is supported by The Coalition and currently operates in three classrooms.
Community Resource Center: The Community Resource Center has developed an early learning space with various programs for children and parents, including dual-language learning for Spanish-speaking families. They received grants to support these initiatives.
YMCA Programs: The YMCA ran a successful kindergarten readiness camp and launched a Toddler Movement and Play program. They plan to expand the camp next year and adjust the toddler program's timing.
Camano Forest School: A new outdoor nature-based school was established by parents after the closure of an existing forest school. They face financial challenges and are awaiting 501c3 status to apply for grants.
Play Posse: Play Posse, a nonprofit focused on outdoor play, is expanding its preschool to Warm Beach, partnering with a senior community for intergenerational activities.
4. Workgroups
Food Insecurity for Seniors: A workgroup identified a need for better outreach about existing meal programs for seniors. Plans include direct mail outreach to increase awareness and participation.
Unhoused Group: A workgroup addressing homelessness, focusing on creating a crisis center with wraparound services. They are in the early stages of planning and seeking more partners.
